Creating a well-designed home is an art, one that involves building depth and character through thoughtfully layered spaces. Not only should objects and furniture complement each other visually, but they should have a story and a personal connection to transform a house into a home that feels special and original. This philosophy of design is something Alvar Aalto understood deeply, as reflected in both his studio and home. Continuing this legacy, Artek has launched the Crafted Through Time series, a collection that introduces special re-editions, reinterpretations, and classic designs that add a distinct, layered character to any space.
One standout from this collection is the reintroduction of the iconic Armchair 45, originally designed in 1947. With its solid Finnish birch frame and quilted leather or linen cross-weaving, this chair is completely crafted from natural materials, ensuring it will develop a unique patina over time. Its lasting design makes it versatile enough for commercial spaces, offices (as Aalto did in his Tiilimäki studio), or a statement piece home – just don’t be surprised if your pup claims it as their own.
Complementing the walnut-stained version of the Armchair 45 are the Aalto Table Round 91 and Aalto Table Rectangular 83, now available in the same finish. In dining or living spaces, this rich, warm hue brings an inviting quality in spaces meant for gathering and sharing meals.
Rounding out the Crafted Through Time collection are two striking fixtures: the A110 Hand Grenade and A333 Turnip pendant lights, now offered in a neutral linen colorway inspired by the vintage textile lampshades have been a hallmark of Artek’s designs over the years. These fixtures feature a two-tone design, accented with a perforated brass rim that softly diffuses light in multiple directions. When illuminated, they cast the soft, indirect light that is so emblematic of Aalto interiors.
