Family Finds Serenity in Hampton Bays Retreat by Tami Wassong

When envisioning the ideal location for a weekend retreat, few would argue against the charm of a residence nestled in the picturesque settlement of Hampton Bays, Long Island. While the New York location itself boasts natural beauty, it is Tami Wassong’s expertise that truly elevates the home. Working alongside architect Mojo Stumer and stylist Katja Greeff, her masterful touch transforms this idyllic setting into a serene paradise, seamlessly blending elegance and comfort to craft a harmonious and inviting retreat.

In describing how the home came to be, Wassong reminisces: “The day this couple found the property they had heard the song ‘Buy Dirt’ by Jordan Davis and knew that this was how all their dreams would come true. It was a sign. They have the lyrics framed in their entryway hallway as a reminder that dreams can come true.”

The clients, a couple who cherish weekends with their adult children and dog, cultivated a love for combining traditional and modern styles throughout their extensive travels. Evident in the home’s design, the interiors feature a mix of travertine, marble, and wood, complemented by unexpected angles and organic shapes. With an emphasis on minimalism, the color palettes are inspired by the surrounding environment featuring whites, ivories, blues, soft grays, and matte black accents, which are reflected along the coastal setting.

Described by Wassong as “peace on the bay,” the home offers stunning views of the water from the primary bedroom, providing a tranquil start and end to each day. The furnishings and lighting further enhance this serenity, with minimalist pieces from Allied Maker, Roll & Hill, Armadillo, and Audo providing the finishing touches. The home seamlessly combines casual and formal dining spaces, each exuding distinct charm. A kitchen-adjacent dinette, adorned with dining chairs by Karimoku, offers a cozy setting for intimate meals. Meanwhile, the formal dining room showcases a custom TWID Table by Lauren Paul Woodworking, serving as a notable centerpiece.
